Karatsev, Ends Rublev’s ATP 500 Unbeaten Run In Style

March 20, 2021by Samuel Salimon

It’s a smooth ride to the final for Karatsev after defeating his countryman Rublev in what seemed like a somewhat difficult feat.

Karatsev who now has a 11-2 record at ATP 500 will be joining Lloyd Harris in the final game of the ATP 500 games.

Both players will be in the competition final for the very first time.

Harris met with Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals when he defeated 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(6) to advance to the finals. This game makes it the South African win in his seventh match in a row.

Prior to this game, we predicted Rublev to win because he’s more experienced in the game but this wasn’t his lucky day.

Karatsev started the game on the front foot striking early to keep Rublev behind the baseline. Karatsev created 16 breakpoints and landed 41 winners in the 2 hours, 12 minutes clash.

He’s the first wild card to book a spot in the Dubai final since 1997 where the feat was achieved by Thomas Muster.
