Barcelona’s presidential elections are about to hold.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Lionel Messi’s future at the club.
In a bid to succeed Josep Maria Bartomeu, many of the talks from the presidential aspirants have been around Lionel Messi.
There was a debate on Tuesday evening between the aspirants, Joan Laporta, Victor Font, and Toni Freixa.
Laporta spoke extensively about Messi’s future beyond the season, as he urged Barcelona’s associates to vote for him to keep “La Pulga” at the club.
“I am convinced that, if any of the other candidates win the election, Messi will not continue playing for Barcelona. If I win, he will stay here,” Laporta said with a high level of confidence.
According to Joan Laporta, the project he is planning will be built around Lionel Messi’s figure. The player and his entourage will be satisfied with their chances of winning titles.
“He is not only thinking about money. He wants a competitive team around to win. I am convinced that he will listen to my proposal, and I am also convinced that if any of the other candidates win, he will leave the club. I have a great relationship with Leo, and I know he will consider my proposal,” Laporta added.
The elections to vote for a new president will hold on March 7, and cules will be looking forward to the new direction the team will take under a new leader.
Perhaps, the most critical decision that will be taken by the new president will be about planning the clubs future with or without Lionel Messi.
